    Description

    MANHATTAN PROJECT
    .  Post World War II important memorandum issued on behalf of Robert Oppenheimer by his personal assistant, Inez Claire O’Brien, for the purpose of organizing and cataloging 11,000 documents of research on the Manhattan Project for future scientists.  The memorandum reads in part, "I would like to explain to you the present state of the document library and make some recommendations for its future development...This work has been done exclusively in the field of atomic energy and related subjects.  This is the foundation upon which all future work in the field of atomic energy could be based."
    IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM ISSUED BY ROBERT OPPENHEIMER IN 1946 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CREATING A MANHATTAN PROJECT ARCHIVE
    The memo was issued on January 18, 1946, contains two pages, measures 11 by 8.5 inches, in fine condition with creasing, acquired directly from O'Brien's estate, and accompanied with photocopies of O'Brien's Manhattan Project service certificate, U.S. Army discharge papers, and correspondence from Oppenheimer to O'Brien.
